"I miss him, Dean." Sam looked up at his older brother, tears stinging the corner of his eyes.
Dean was jolted awake by Sam's voice, looking at him with a dazed expression before he was finally able to make out what his brother had said. "Miss who?" Dean asked, even though he had a vague suspicion that he knew who Sam was referring to.
"Dad." Sam looked away from Dean, his hands moving to his eyes, wiping away the tears that were forming.
They were seated around a fire in Bobby's living room, with Bobby nowhere to be found. Sam was sitting on the floor in front of the recliner which Gabriel was currently passed out in, and Dean and Castiel were tangled together on the couch, Cas's light breaths tickling Dean's ear.
Dean managed to ignore Cas, focusing instead on his brother. "I miss him too." Dean's arms tightened around Cas, and he noticed Sam's hand wrapping around Gabriel's ankle. "But he's gone. There's nothing we can do about it."
Sam was quiet, before giving a small, harsh laugh. "Do you remember that Thanksgiving he tried to cook the turkey?"
Dean laughed. "Yeah. He burned the hell outta that poor bird."
"He bought us KFC instead," Sam laughed, turning his cheek so that it was pressed against Gabe's calf. "Do you remember what he said?"
"Of course I do," Dean laughed too, pressing his face in Castiel's neck. "He said, 'you two fatasses wanted this anyway'."
It hadn't been that funny at the time, and to be honest it still wasn't. But that didn't matter to the brothers. They were talking about their broken family again, and they loved it.
Dean couldn't but notice, though, that every time Sam spoke, his body melted more and more into Gabriel's. At the same time, Sam couldn't help but notice that every time Dean spoke, more and more of his body became hidden by Castiel's.
There was a lull in the conversation, during which Dean wasted no time in gently pressing kisses onto Cas's exposed throat, waiting patiently for Sam to continue. Sam was intertwining his hands with Gabriel's, kissing Gabe's palms as he did so.  Neither Castiel nor Gabriel stirred, both knocked out in their respective positions, by their respective Winchester's.
"Dean?" Sam spoke up a few minutes later, afraid his older brother had fallen asleep.
"Yeah?" Dean's voice was muffled by Cas.
"Do you think Dad would be proud of us?"
Dean was silent, his body stiffening against Cas's.
"I mean, we didn't exactly turn out the way he wanted us to."
"What do you mean, Sammy?" Dean's voice was as stiff as his body, and Sam definitely noticed.
Sam exhaled, his breath warm against the denim of Gabe's jeans. "I started the Apocalypse. And I was addicted to demon blood. I left you for Ruby. If Gabe hadn't decided to use us, I'd still be running around sucking Ruby's blood like a fucked up vamp."
"You're not the only one who would disappoint him," Dean didn't move away from Cas, and Sam had to struggle to be able to understand his brother. "I went to hell where I did….awful things, things Dad had the strength not to do. I pushed you away so many times. I caused so many stupid fights that could have separated us. If Cas hadn't had…" Dean stopped, pressing even closer to Castiel.
"How do you think he would feel about them?" Sam asked, his voice now muffled by Gabe's calf.
       "Who?"
"You know who," Sam didn't sound cross, just tired. "Cas and Gabe," he clarified, after a moment of silence.
Dean was quiet. "I don't know."
"Do you think he'd be disappointed?"
"Not in you…you never disappointed him. Me? Maybe."
"C'mon, Dean, don't get like that."
"I'm not getting like anything, Sam. You're the youngest, you're the favorite, you'd get away with it." Dean didn't sound bitter or tired. Just thoughtful.
"But you and Cas…you've been together for years."
"And?" Sam could barely make out Dean's shrug over Cas's shoulders. "I don't know how Dad would react to that. For all I know, he'd shoot me then light Cas up in holy oil and run him through with his sword." Cas stirred, moving even closer to Dean.
"Dean?" Cas's sleepy voice sounded concerned, and Dean sighed, tightening his grip on Castiel.
"Go back to sleep, Cas. Everything's all right here."
Castiel accepted what Dean said easily enough, putting his head under Dean's chin and promptly falling asleep again. Gabe hadn't stirred, his deep sleep rendering him completely immobile. Sam leaned his head back, his shaggy hair spreading out in Gabe's lap. A smile played on Sam's lips, and he gave a contented sigh.
They sat in silence for a few more minutes, beginning to feel themselves drift off. "Sam?" Dean spoke before sleep could take him completely under its wings.
"Yeah?" Sam sounded just as tired as Dean felt.
"I think he'd be okay with them."
"Really?" Sam's eyes widened slightly. "Why?" he continued, slightly taken aback.
"Dad was always a sucker for true love."
I wanted to bring in John, but I didn't want to bring John in physically.

And the thought of Sam and Gabe in the recliner was too adorable.

The name sucks. I can't think of anything else though. Any ideas?

:iconcrystachick: sketched Dean and Cas. ----> [link] go look at and admire her work. Now.

So as :iconmisha-migo: pointed out, Angels don't sleep. So I have decided that somehow, someone somewhere slipped them Angel Nyquil.
